Writing Resource Blog : 750 Words |

by Kyra Trumbull

Greetings! I am a senior double majoring in English and Film & Media at Colgate University. As part of my internship with 32M Center for Creative Work and as a writer myself, I researched websites that I had either personally encountered or heard of as being available, accessible, and interesting. Below are some reviews of my personal experience with these resources!

Today, I embarked across the internet to explore firsthand a writing resource which I hope will compel me to write. As many other aspiring writers do, I struggle immensely to convince myself to sit down and actually engage with the foreboding malaise that goes hand in hand with a blank page. However, after compiling a list of potential sites to investigate, I’ve decided I shall grow roots in my chair until I’ve written something (anything at all)! Searching up 750Words with a helpful tip from my TikTok fyp, I was immediately greeted with a challenge to write 750 words every day for a whole month. Intimidating! But also, an exciting prospect that might end my ineffective idleness. The long list of people in the process of completing the challenge right below also presented an engaged and entertaining community. One particularly comedic user by the name of “Quossum” illustrated the general “If successful: __ / If unsuccessful: __” prompt with

“If successful: scream an audacious yawp unto the clouds

If unsuccessful: whimper a pathetic yeep to my chagrined toes”.

Which sparked a laugh and convinced me to give it a try. Even the sign-up cues from the website’s creators tried to be humorous and minimize the process between exploration and active engagement. I found that the encouragement of a little accountability to start writing supported by the lack of pressure to get some private journaling down really made the challenge feel possible. In my opinion, this will be a great place to get my stream of consciousness out and warm up with the morning coffee equivalent to writing. Whether you’re a writer that struggles with motivation or not, 750 words is a great place to get yourself started on a paper, especially when you can see all the other like-minded people working on the same challenge. In my opinion: a website made for morning pages or goal-driven writers.

To sign off my first blog post (and perhaps all the rest as well), a some of the best ending lines in books that I’ve read:

After all, tomorrow is another day.” — Margaret Mitchell
